Starting with Black History Month in October, these events are designed to celebrate diverse voices in the AI research community. Each event will typically last half a day and cover themes including bias in the discipline of AI and how it impacts on technology and society.

They include a keynote from , the first Black scientist to give a Royal Institution Christmas lecture. They will be of particular interest to researchers and business team members with an interest in AI and machine learning, especially those who would find that the themes covered by the events resonate with their own lived experiences.

This year, the chance to participate in all four events, and a unique package of supporting activities, is being offered to up to 20 members of the Turing community.

The four main events will feature speakers whose backgrounds and experiences are relevant to the themes, which are:

• Celebrating Black History Month in AI, 14 October, 1 – 4.30pm
• Celebrating disability in AI,Ìý2 December
• Celebrating LGBTQ+ in AI, February (exact date TBC)
• Celebrating Women in AI, March (exact date TBC)

The first event will be held virtually, with the format for the final three to be confirmed. There will also be opportunities to network and quiz the main speakers after these events, plus a final wrap-up discussion.

How to take part

Places at these events are limited, so we are asking anyone interested to complete a short . Turing staff (employees and secondees), students and members of EDI Network groups are invited to apply. Although the original closing date for these events has passed, there are still reserved places left, so we keeping open the recruitment.
