The BAAS (British Association for American Studies) Teaching Prize recognises excellence and innovation in teaching American Studies at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Nick and Josh won the award this year for the third-year module 'Contemporary Issues in the Americas' (AMER0059).

In awarding Nick and Josh with the 2024 prize, the awards panel noted:

"This is a really interesting and powerful/empowering approach to assessment that gives students significant agency within a carefully-designed structure. The module is forward-thinking and exceptionally well-designed and the decision to embed skills into a third-year course is particularly impressive. The range of assessments and careful delineation of assessments-per-block ensures engagement across the module and dovetails with the goals for the module, supporting learning in a really thoughtful and holistic way. We really appreciate that it gives students multiple opportunities to synthesise their learning through the thematic approach within an assessment structure that encourages the explicit and thoughtful development of a wide range of skills."

The award was presented at a virtual ceremony on 14 June. Congratulations both!
