Lecturer (Teaching) in Designing Inclusive Places, Bartlett School Env, Energy & Resources, Faculty of the Built Environment

Toar is an alumna of UCL from which she graduated with an MSc in Health, Wellbeing and Sustainable Buildings. She previously completed a Bachelor of Architecture from the City College of New York and graduated as valedictorian. She is a registered architect in the USA, a certified architect in Israel, and a WELL AP. She is a senior member of the inclusive design team in Buro Happold, a global world-class multi-disciplinary engineering and consulting practice.聽

Toar is passionate about sustainable and inclusive design for health and wellbeing, and has a particular interest in the relationship between neuroscience and design. Her research work has contributed to the publication of BSI鈥檚 PAS 6463 鈥淒esign for the Mind - Neurodiversity and the Built Environment - Guide鈥�.

Toar is an active speaker on inclusive design, having presented in conferences such as the Education Estates, CIBSE Build2Perform and Ecophon International Acoustics Seminar. She has collaborated on workshops as part of the BRE Health and Wellbeing Technical Working Group and with Aural Diversity. She has written and been interviewed on inclusive design in publications by USGBC+, AIA New York and the Dementia Friendly Network. She is a member of the Access Association and serves on the External Advisory Board for the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Bath.聽

Toar has experience working on a wide range of building typologies and outdoor environments within the UK and overseas, including residential, commercial, educational, and recreational. She has delivered consultancy services in a range of project scales, from small exhibition spaces to neighbourhood masterplans, and has worked on various research projects, including for the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi and for the European Commission.

Toar is currently Module Lead in Designing Inclusive Places.
