Q&A with Eve

Why did you join the Prosperity, People and Planet MSc?

I joined the course to focus my future career towards more integrated and sustainable practices. My previous academic experiences in fashion management allowed me to explore my passion for creativity and innovation within the fashion industry, and my previous professional experiences in human resources and strategic consulting within the banking sector in Switzerland helped me gain insights into corporate structures and professional dynamics in a different cultral context. Additionally, I contributed to my family's educational consultancy business, which sharpened my skills in entrepreneurship and client relations.

Alongside my studies at the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity, I am pursuing a part-time master's degree study in Arts and Cultural enterprise programme at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, which supports my commitment to combining creative pursuits with formal education. My journey through two master’s courses has been uniquely challenging but rewarding. While it is demanding to juggle different academic disciplines simultaneously, this experience has reinforced my commitment to lifelong learning and my conviction in the power of interdisciplinary approaches to addressing complex global challenges.

Ultimately, I realised my previous experiences highlighted the need for a broader understanding of global economic systems and sustainable development. The Prosperity, People and Planet MSc presented me with an opportunity to deepen my knowledge in these areas, equipping me with the necessary experience to influence and innovate within any industry.

What aspects of your studies do you enjoy the most, and why?

The aspects of my studies I enjoy most include the engaging community and the exceptional academic environment. Serving as a deputy student representative, I interact closely with a supportive network of staff and peers who are genuinely committed to student welfare and academic excellence. Additionally, I've found the optional modules on the course including 'China and Global Prosperity' and 'Prosperity from Below: The Informal, the Illicit, and the Popular' intellectually stimulating and immensely relevant to contemporary issues in global development.

What is life like in London as a student of the Propserity, People and Planet MSc?

Living and studying in London has been exhilarating yet challenging. The city’s vibrant diversity and cultural richness enhance the learning experience, providing daily interactions with a myriad of perspectives and opportunities. At the same time, living in a city like Lonodn definitely demands careful financial and time management to balance studies, work, and social engagements effectively.

My long-term ambition is to establish a consultancy firm that specialises in the convergence of fashion, arts, and sustainability. This venture would not only embody a synthesis of my academic pursuits but would also function as a catalyst for advocating sustainable practices within the creative industries. By leveraging my interdisciplinary background, the company would aim to drive innovation and sustainable development, inspiring future generations with ethical practices. This consultancy would foster environmental stewardship and encourage transformative approaches across the creative industries.
