Overview
The Urban Design Research Group (UDRG) focuses on better understanding and deploying the theories, processes, practices, actors and pedagogies of urban design. We examine problems that range from fundamental theoretical questions about the nature of urban design; to direct engagement shaping its tools of operation; to work with communities to mould their localities; to understanding the fundamental form and nature of space.
The Bartlett School of Planning's research in urban design reflects four broad themes although researchers work across and beyond the categories:
- Urban design governance
- Public space and morphology
- Society, economy and urban design
- Engaging in urban design
- People

The UDRG meets regularly to share research ideas, outputs and challenges. It organises an annual seminar and exhibition and acts as a support network for academics, research students and visitors with an interest in urban design.
