UCL Biochemical Engineering Welcomes Professor Alex Conradie

10 January 2023

We're very pleased to announce that Prof Alex Conradie has joined UCL Biochemical Engineering as Professor in Sustainable Bioprocess Engineering

Alex Conradie

Alex was the Chair in Sustainable Chemical Processing at the University of Nottingham (UK) before joining UCL. Alex holds a BEng(Hons) and a MSc in Chemical Engineering from Stellenbosch University (South Africa), and a PhD in Advanced Process Control from Stellenbosch University (South Africa) in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin (USA).

His research is primarily focused on deploying biotechnology in support of a sustainable future, working closely with industry collaborators on technology demonstration. Underpinning this paradigm shift towards renewable processing, Alex’ multi-disciplinary skills and expertise include biochemistry, systems biology, fermentation technology, downstream purification, process modeling, optimisation, techno-economics and process control.

As Professor in Sustainable Bioprocess Engineering at UCL, Alex will continue his research in sustainable manufacturing within Õ¬ÄÐÊÓƵ new Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL). The MFL will host a number of exciting MSc degree programmes. In addition to research, Alex has an enthusiasm for sharing his appreciable industry experience with students, having worked in both the industrial biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals sectors between 2002 and 2016.
