About the project

Along the LaneÌýexploredÌýthe flow of memory, culture and social histories within the East End of London. Rechonski and Jane WilcockÌýforged relationships with community members, mainly elders, from Jewish and Bangladeshi groups, and co-facilitated a series of creative workshops where participants told their own stories and learned about the lived experience of others. Each workshop set out to be an engaging and positive experience for everyone. Through exploration of textiles, food and scent activities they were ableÌýto curate these sensory creative workshops.Ìý

This nuanced portrayal of the area's history involvedÌýthe community in the co-creation process of the two sculptural pieces that represented the collective memories of the East End. Ìý

About the artists

, is the interdisciplinary practice of Sam Harris. He explores ideas on tradition, community, and ritual. Recontextualising objects and spaces to attempt to find minute histories and unwritten biographies of forgotten places. He values collective process and collaboration within his work and uses a variety of mediums including sculpture, performance, and poetry.

is an applied health researcher at UCL, her research interests focus on improving dementia diagnosis and care. ÌýShe has recently led on creating an online dementia guide Forward with dementia. This accessible guide was co-developed by and for people living with dementia, carers and health and social care professionals. Providing practical guidance, information, personal stories and tools, it highlights the supports available after a diagnosis of dementia. Jane has a national role in patient and public involvement in research and encourages approaches for good public collaboration such as flexibility, learning, equality, inclusion and respect.
