The recent sequence of devastating earthquakes in Türkiye has led to significant loss of life and homelessness, impacting large portions of the urban population. The concept of resilience is understood to be broad and deeply interconnected. Many urban areas are grappling with complex challenges, including regional conflicts, climate change-induced migrations, inflation, and the impacts of natural disasters.

Despite the scale of the current crises, the project emphasizes the importance of looking at planning through a healthy cities’ perspective, and seeks to establish an expert pool and develop locally relevant principles for healthy cities. The primary goal of this project is to create a platform for dialogue among experts, including public health specialists, urban planners, engineers, and decision- and policy-makers from academia, NGOs, and local and central governments.

Focusing on healthy cities and disaster resilience in Türkiye, the hybrid workshop will feature speakers from academia, local governments, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and NGOs, which will be followed by feedback activity for WHO's Check List for Healthy Cities and round table discussion of attendees.

This project has received initial funding from Õ¬ÄÐÊÓƵ Bartlett Public Policy Support Fund and is in collaboration with local partner Aydın Adnan Menderes University and host partner Middle East Technical University with Dr. Meltem Balaban.
