Dr Michalis Vitos

Michalis started his studies with a BSc in Information Technology Engineering, followed by an MSc in Applied Informatics and a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. After working for more than two years as an independent Web Developer and SEO consultant, he joined UCL and the ExCiteS research group to pursue his PhD.

As a PhD student, his overall objective was to develop innovative ICT and GIS tools that can be used by semi-nomadic and non-literate indigenous communities to monitor environmental changes and resource extraction in scientifically validated ways. Enabling communities to better understand these changes can lead to more informed decision-making. He finished his PhD in 2017 and is now a Post Doctoral Research Assistant, still working with ExCiteS.

His research interests include the areas of Human-Computer Interaction and Software Engineering in combination with the emerging area of Participatory GIS and Citizen Science.
