Description
This module is organized into a number of discrete seminar series. In each series you will critically consider psychoanalytic theory alongside a number of fields, including psychopathology and other distinct disciplines concerned with the wider culture, such as Philosophy or Literature. Importantly, throughout the module, you will not only consider how psychoanalysis might be ‘applied’ in the narrow sense to each one of the fields, but will also explore psychoanalytic theory as a live body of knowledge that can be put in dialogue with other disciplines and respond to its challenges, both within and beyond the clinic. The module is delivered by programme staff and guest lecturers, and is taught in a combination of lectures and seminars. Individual engagement with the material is essential and you will be expected to prepare for each seminar by reading one or two assigned paper-length texts on the topic. Please note that this is a compulsory module in the MSc Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies programme and is only open to students in this programme. (NB students taking the programme in its Foundation Course Pathway take the PSYC0001 Foundation Course module instead)
