Description
The aim of the Critical Issues in Infrastructure Funding, Financing and Financialisation module is to introduce shifts in the political economy of infrastructure, how they relate to the different infrastructure funding and financing options and the implications of selecting different mechanisms. The module also examines the complex relationship between infrastructure economic growth, societal value, resource use and energy consumption. We also examine the different roles played by a range of actors including governments, banks, institutional investors, international financial institutions, civil society and other public and private bodies, the different relationships they reflect and how they shape infrastructural systems. Finally the module also explores the main issues associated with the current transition from a state-oriented to a more market-oriented approach to infrastructure provision, the global trend towards the financialisation of infrastructure and the implications of this for infrastructure that meets the needs of the 21st century.
