Description
Module Aims and/or Objectives: The dissertation is 20,000 words and should be a genuine piece of scholarship, research, or creative argument. It is very different from other course-work assignments, not only longer, but requiring focus on a specific idea or topic and conducting a sustained piece of research (related to educational assessment). It requires interest and commitment and a sustained effort to create a unique piece of work.Ìý
A dissertation can be an empirical study, a secondary-data piece of research or a theoretical discussion. You might wish to undertake a library study such as a historical review of documents and policy, or you might want to conduct a study in an educational setting.ÌýÌý
Indicative Topics: Research paradigms and methodologies; formulating research questions; methods for data collection and analysis; ethical considerations before, during, and after research.Ìý
Teaching and learning: The taught element of the module runs during term 1, and it involves one weekly session during the course of 10 weeks. Term 2 and 3 will involve individual supervisory meetings, group tutorials, and workshops.ÌýÌý
