This module will examine the global and national frameworks on education in emergencies including, ongoing conflicts, complex emergencies, infectious diseases and emerging and re-emerging infections, contexts of mass displacement, refugee situations and post-war educational contexts. It will draw on critical debates in the fields of international relations, geopolitics, public health and health promotion, as well as humanitarian studies to critically engage with and reflect on educational policies, funding issues and challenges of educational provision in diverse contexts that are affected by disruptions caused by emergencies. Students will have an opportunity to engage with critical issues relating to educational practices in emergencies and interact with practitioners from various humanitarian organisations.
