The module requires a background in a related scientific or social science discipline, or a professional health qualification (medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, social work). The module is compulsory for students on the MSc Reproductive Genetics & Fetal Medicine and the MSc Reproductive Science & Women’s Health degrees. Preference will be given to Institute for Women’s Health students for whom this module is compulsory and to Institute for Women’s Health students for whom this is a recommended option.

The aim of this module is to provide knowledge into the scientific and social aspects of fertility and infertility.ÌýThe module is taught by specialists in the field from the Institute for Women’s Health, UCLH Reproductive Medicine Unit and ​the Centre for Reproductive and Genetic Health (CRGH)​.
After taking this module, you should be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
· Fertility, infertility and infertility treatments;
· The social issues relating to infertility and infertility treatments and why they are important in modern society.
The module comprises of lectures, ‘flipped’ lectures, tutorials, videos, an ethical discussion, a practical demonstration, and a peer-led group activity and oral presentation critically evaluating a scientific paper related to fertility treatment and reflecting on how the media have presented this paper.
