Description

This is an intensive course taught over two weeks of the summer term.Ìý It counts as a third year course but you will have completed everything but the final essay prior to the third year starting.ÌýÌý

The course consists of 10 hours of lectures and a minimum of two days fieldwork.Ìý You may attend more days in the field if you wish.Ìý For 2024 the course will consist of:

  • A 2 hour introductory lecture on Friday 24 MayÌý
  • Two days field work out of a possible four in Chichester between 28 and 31ÌýMay.Ìý As these count as fieldwork days you will be able to claim your travel.Ìý Accommodation will be arranged for you.ÌýÌýÌýIf you wish to come to three or all four days, you are welcome to do so. We will be surveying the immediate environs of the Cathedral.
  • Eight hours of lectures between 3 and 6 June.ÌýÌý
  • The first (short assignment) will be due later in June.
  • A longer essay question will be due early in the autumn term.

The course will cover:

  • Background of geophysical survey, grids, strategies etc.
  • Earth Resistance survey
  • Magnetometry
  • Ground Penetrating Radar
  • Magnetic susceptibility survey.
  • Survey interpretation and report writing.
