Description
In this module you will be introduced to the main types of major mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.Ìý You will develop knowledge of diagnostic and classification systems for mental health disorders, core symptoms, how common these disorders are, and different causal factors from a biopsychosocial perspective. Additionally, the module will explore the mechanisms involved in the development, maintenance, and treatment of these disorders. To enable you to understand the impact of mental health on individuals, you will learn about the lived experiences and self-management strategies of people who have mental health problems.
This module will be delivered using face-to-face lectures combined with small group discussions. Ìý
Learning outcomes:
- To understand the main characteristics of a range of common and severe mental health disorders.
- To understand current neural models of mental health disorders.Ìý
- To critically evaluate the current evidence on the neural mechanisms involved in the development and maintenance of different mental health disorders.Ìý
- To understand the current mechanisms and evidence for current mental health interventions across different disorders.Ìý
