Description
Module Content and Indicative TopicsÌý
After a brief introduction to the syntactic representation of Italian sentences, this module explores two of the most fundamental linguistic conditions shaping the structure of sentences in all human languages: theta theory, governing the most fundamental semantic relations holding between the main components of a sentence, and Case theory, governing the positions that those same components may take in a sentence. Understanding these conditions will shed light on otherwise mysterious facts like the alternation of auxiliary essere (to be) and avere (to have) across Italian verbs.Ìý
