Description

The objectives of this module:

  1. To introduce current thinking on disability, based on World Health Organisation definitions
  2. To explore how individuals experience hearing loss, drawing on research evidence and personal stories
  3. To introduce the concept of rehabilitation and investigate how it applies to audiological services
  4. To develop competency in the use of basic counselling skills
  5. To explore factors that influence uptake and use of hearing aids
  6. To introduce you to a range of communication tactics and investigate how they can best be taught to hearing impaired people
  7. To introduce techniques used in therapy for tinnitus and hyperacusis
  8. To expand your knowledge of support services for hearing impaired people
  9. To familiarise you with a range of alternative aids to communication

This is a compulsory module in stage 2 of the MSc / PG diploma in Audiological Science with Clinical Practice.
