Description
Respiratory Diseases and Conditions will introduce you the principles of respiratory diseases and conditions. It will cover in detail the key features of different respiratory conditions and diseases including pneumonia, tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, cystic fibrosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, respiratory neoplasms, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, environmental problems and lung injury.
This module will provide you with a critical understanding of the symptoms, signs, principles of diagnosis and various complex cellular and molecular mechanisms associated with respiratory diseases and conditions. It will give you competence in gaining critical thinking skills and being able to evaluate data presented in a scientific paper.
After taking this module you should be able to describe the symptoms and signs of respiratory diseases. You should be able to understand the principles of diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases, the various complex cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in several respiratory diseases and be able to examine the most current research publications in the field.
The module will be delivered by experts in the field and comprises a combination of flip-lectures, lectures, tutorials and independent reading. As well as lectures you will write an essay on a scientifically contentious topic, based on your analysis of research papers.
The module is compulsory for students on the Respiratory Clinical Science MSc degree.
