Celebrating Ramadan in the Õ¬ÄÐÊÓƵ community in 2024

From around 11 March until 9 April 2024, Muslims across UCL will mark Ramadan, the holiest month of the Muslim calendar.

The month of Ramadan marks the revelation of the Book ofÌýQu’ran and is a time of reflection, with a particular focus on prayer, purification and charitable acts. During the month, Muslims around the world refrain from eating and drinking, including water, during daylight hours. This means that UCL staff and studentsÌýobserving the fast may need some flexibility during the period.Ìý

±«°ä³¢â€™s guidance on supporting Muslim staff during Ramadan has more information, including information and advice for managers. The Muslim Council of Britain has also published a useful , including advice around what is and what is not included in the fast, and who is exempt from fasting. There is also a comprehensive , including tips to maintain physical and mental health whilst fasting, tips for a more eco-friendly Ramadan and advice for employers and line managers.

TheÌýUCL Chaplain and Interfaith Adviser, Reid Humble, has also sharedÌýtips to maintain energy and focus for those observing Ramadan.
