Visit of CONICET President and Diplomatic Delegation

Dr Daniel Salamone, President of CONICET (Argentina), along with Argentine and UK Embassy members, visited UCL School of Pharmacy to explore collaborative opportunities.

The UCL School of Pharmacy recently welcomed Dr Daniel Salamone, President of CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina), accompanied by members of the Argentine embassies in the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom embassy in Argentina. The delegation included Simon Chater, Head of Science and Innovation at the UK Science & Innovation Network in Argentina.

The visit aimed to explore potential collaborations between the UCL School of Pharmacy and CONICET, the leading governmental science institution in Latin America, according to the 2024 Scimago Ranking. Globally, CONICET ranks 20th among governmental research institutions. Dr Salamone and the diplomatic delegation received a comprehensive tour of UCL's laboratories, including those led by Dr Geoffrey Wells, Dr Frank Kozielski, Dr Matthew Todd, and Dr Duncan Browne, which represent key areas of research and innovation within the UCL School of Pharmacy.

Dr Exequiel Porta (Argentine), a former CONICET member and current Research Fellow of the Kozielski and Wells group, organized the visit. Along with Dr Rebecka Isaksson, Research Fellow of the Matthew Todd group, he guided the delegation, showcasing cutting-edge research and fostering discussions on future partnerships.

Dr Salamone expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, stating, "This visit has opened up exciting possibilities for collaboration between CONICET and UCL. We look forward to fostering stronger ties and advancing our shared scientific goals". Simon Chater added, "The UK Science & Innovation Network is committed to strengthening international scientific collaboration, and this visit underscores the potential for impactful partnerships between our institutions”.
