SI on Cascading Crises IJDRR-New Papers Online

25 March 2018

The papers of the Special Issue "Understanding and mitigating cascading crises in the global interconnected system", hosted by the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, have been released online.

SI on Cascading Crises IJDRR

The special issue has been guest edited by Gianluca Pescaroli (UCL), Michael Nones (Unibo), Luca Galbusera (EU JRC) and David Alexander (UCL). It aims to create a milestone for the field, contextualising cascading in the built environment, the social domains, and applied emergency management.

Its main goal is to present a range of perspectives that could point out the interactions and interconnections orienting the escalation of secondary emergencies through vulnerability paths, instead of focusing only on triggering. The following papers are already available online and have been reported in the order of release:

Pescaroli, G. (2018). Perceptions of cascading risk and interconnected failures in emergency planning: Implications for operational resilience and policy making.

Kelman, I. (2018). Connecting theories of cascading disasters and disaster diplomacy.

Serre, D., and Heinzlef, C.(2018).Assessing and mapping urban resilience to floods with respect to cascading effects through critical infrastructure networks.

Hlekiwe Kachali,H., Storsjö, I., Haavisto,I.,Kovács G. (2018).Inter-sectoral preparedness and mitigation for networked risks and cascading effects.

Parisi, A., Monno, V. , Fidelibus, M. D. (2018).Cascading vulnerability scenarios in the management of groundwater depletion and salinization in semi-arid areas.

Zaidi,Z. (2018).Beyond the Sendai indicators: Application of a cascading risk lens for the improvement of loss data indicators for slow-onset hazards and small-scale disasters.

The list will be updated as the papers become available. Â
