Slinging and rigging refresher training course
This instructor-led course is for staff who want to refresh or renew their "Safe use of slings, hoists and mechanical aids" certification.
Course description
If you use slinging and mechanical lifting equipment, hoist and overhead crane as part of your work activities you must complete the "Safe use of slings, hoists and mechanical aids" training course. You must complete a refresher course every 3 years. This training course consists听of听a one-hour theory session followed by one hour of practical instruction.听
You are required to bring your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the form of a safety helmet, boots and gloves and you should refer to the Health Checklist to confirm that you are fit to undertake this training.
Prerequisites
You must have successfully completed the Safe use of slings, hoists and mechanical aids within the last 3 years.
All safety instructor-led training courses are delivered by our team of safety experts.
Objectives
The aim of this training听course is to refresh your knowledge on听current legislation and the theoretical and听practical applications of slinging.
- Lifting and the law
- Slinging materials including听chains, webbing slings, lifting equipment, shackles, eyebolts, hooks
- Pre-use safety checks and听inspection
- The principles of slinging
- Working Load Limit (WLL)听angles
- Safe use of overhead crane gantry
Target audience
Staff who use slinging and mechanical lifting equipment, hoist or overhead crane.
Cost
Training courses are free to UCL staff however your Department will be charged 拢50 if you fail to attend when booked on a course.听 Non-attendance at first aid courses will incur a higher non-attendance fee.

External delegates
Places to external delegates are only offered if there is spare capacity on an instructor-led course.
