On 2 June UCL SSEES is hosting a public ‘knowledge exchange’ event to discuss recent developments in Russia and Ukraine from the sub-national perspective.

Two panels of experts will speak about centre-regional relations, as well as journalistic practices, identities and issues of governance at the regional level. The event is intended to facilitate dialogue between academics and the non-academic community. Regional dynamics in Russian and Ukrainian political life tend to receive less attention than dynamics in Moscow and Kyiv and this event proposes a timely corrective to the privileging of representations from the centre.

This event is generously supported by  and the

Panel 1: Changing cultures of regional governance in Russia: Politics, journalism, and public opinions: Nikolai Petrov (Moscow Carnegie Centre), Valentin Bianki (St Petersburg State University), Natasha Kuhrt (KCL) and Stephen Ennis (BBC Monitoring).

Panel 2: Politics, identities and journalism in the regions of Ukraine: Tatiana Zhurzhenko (IWM, Vienna), Marc Berenson (King’s College London), Michael Gentile (University of Helsinki) and Andrew Wilson (UCL SSEES).

Attendance is free and open to all, but registration is required. Places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
