In the first guest speaker event of the Press Group this term, Dr Inozemtsev – a Russian economist and Director of the Centre for Post-Industrial Studies in Moscow – will present his latest book on Russia's place in the world in the 21st century.

Contrary to many Western analysts who depict Russia as an 'abnormal' country, Dr Inozemtsev calls it, rather, an 'un-contemporary' one.

He argues that Russia is a car moving, maybe not into a dead-end, but definitely driving on the wrong side of the road, explaining this by the lack of mutual understanding between Moscow and the rest of the world.

Putin's Russia is actually driving backwards, and not championing its 'unique' path, as is believed by many.
