Apply for paternity/partner's leave
This guide is for any employee who is the partner ofÌýsomeone who is pregnant orÌýsomeone who is the intended primary adopter of a child.
Before you start
Please refer to the policy for full details of paternity/partner's leave entitlement and eligibility.
There are two things you need to do to apply for paternity/partner's leave:Ìý
- notify your manager, preferably in writing, andÌý
- Fill out the .
PLEASE NOTE:ÌýYou have 28 days to provide HR Services with confirmation of your Paternity/Partner's leave dates, via the Parternity/Partner's leave form, but you must inform your line manger of your eligibility/intention to take Paternity/Partner's leave, by the end of the 15th week before the expected week of childbirthÌý
To begin your application for Paternity/Partner'sÌýleave you will need to know the following information:
- Your employee number,
- Department orÌýFaculty/Division
- confirmation of when you intend to take paternity leave.
- 1. Fill in the online Paternity/Partner's leave form

- Fill out theÌý. Please selectÌýNewÌýat the start of the form when prompted.
- Please ensure that you have a copy of one of the followingÌýto attach to the form:
- a copy of the MAT B1 certificate
- a copy of the birth certificate
- a copy of the matching certificate (for adoption leave).
3. If you are still waiting for any of the above, you can send a copy over to HR Services once you have received it,Ìýbut in the event that you need to amend your leave dates as well, please submit a new form and selectÌýamendmentÌýat the start of the form.
4. Once you have completed your form, it will be automatically sent to your line manager to sign off.

- Your line manager will receive the form automatically via email once you have completed yourÌýsection of the online form.
- Your line managerÌýwill then need to sign the form after theyÌýhave been able toÌýprovideÌýdetails of how they propose to cover your duties.
- If you are grant funded, the PI section is designed to act as a visual prompt for your PI to notify your funder to ensure that your Grant funding is not impacted by you going on leave.
- Once they have signed the form, it will automaticallyÌýbe sent to HR Services to process your application.

- Once your line manager signs off their section, it will be automatically be sent to HR Services to process.
- Within four weeks of receiving your application, HR Services will email you to confirm yourÌýPaternity/Partner'sÌýleaveÌýhas been processed.
