International Student Orientation Course

The International Student Orientation Course willÌýhelp you familiarise yourself with everything you need to know about life at UCL.

TheÌýcourse is intended for any international student who is starting at UCL.ÌýThis includesÌýall levels of study; whether you're here for one term or fiveÌýyears.ÌýAlthough this course is optional, it contains important information that can smooth your start at UCL and in London!

TheÌýcourse is divided into 4Ìýsections. Each section contains presentations and activitiesÌýto prepare you for your time at UCL. These topicsÌýare labelled to make navigating the course easier. Resources and links are also organised under every section.

Healthcare, wellbeing and safety

  • What services are offered by the National Health Service (NHS) and how to access them;
  • The Student Support and Wellbeing team and what services are offered to students who require extra support;Ìý
  • The UCL Safety team and how you can stay safe during your time at UCL.

Life in London and the UK

  • What to bring and prepare for when coming to London and the UK;Ìý
  • The best ways to travel around London and the UK;Ìý
  • Information about banks and how to open an account in the UK;Ìý
  • Immigration advice for EU/EEA/Swiss and non-EU international students.Ìý

AcademicÌýlife at UCL

  • Tutors and academic staff who can help with your academic and personal journey through UCL;
  • English language support for academic purposes;
  • Who to ask and where to go forÌýspecific questions such as UCL Library services;
  • Accessing various other academic and social support.Ìý

Social life at UCL

  • Career and job services offered for when you graduate;Ìý
  • All the clubs, societies, support and opportunities offered by Students' Union UCL;
  • How to beÌýmore environmentally sustainable.

You may find that certain topics are not as relevant to you such as access to private healthcare. This is not a problem and you can simply skip those sections. As you move through the course, you can check-off the sections you have completed.Ìý
