IT information

After you’re pre-enrolled, you can find out more about IT at UCL.

For Doctoral Researchers, IT Essentials for UCL Staff may also be useful.Ìý

IT Essentials for New StudentsÌý

Our Information Services Division (ISD) have put together a page that covers the essentials for new students.

It covers:Ìý

  • Essentials e.g. connecting to email and UCL printers,
  • Using your own computer,
  • Using computers on campus,Ìý
  • Accessing Software,
  • Study Support,
  • Where to get help.

IT Helpdesk During Welcome

If you need help setting up your IT account between the 16 September - 27 September, visit our helpdesk in the Haldane Room, Bloomsbury.Ìý It's open 9:00am - 5:00pm (excluding 12:30pm-13:30pm). It will close at 1pm on Friday 27 September.Ìý

WiFi, printing and Microsoft Office

In addition to the IT essentials website, we recommend that you look at the following pages. These are a couple of things we find new students struggle to set up.

Managing your emailsÌý

As a student you will receive many emails. Follow these tips to stay on top of your email inbox:

  • to store your messages,
  • as soon as you receive them,
  • to send you one digest email per day (rather than individual notifications),
  • with your name, student number and programme in it,
  • Staff and other students will use UCL email to communicate with you, so make checking your inbox a regular habit.

Further learning on email management in Microsoft Outlook can be found on LinkedIn Learning, which is free for all UCL students to access.

UCL GoÌý

For easy access to your emails, timetables, PC availability, laptop loans and much more,Ìýdownload UCL Go.ÌýÌý

IT Support for Disabled StudentsÌýÌý

The Digital Accessibility Services team support disabled students. They run Digital Accessibility HubsÌýand can provide assistive technology.Ìý

To access this support, contact Student Support and Wellbeing Services.Ìý They will carry out an assessment and complete a Summary of Reasonable Adjustments (SORA). The SORA will note if access to the hubs is granted.Ìý
