Gain professional recognition for your doctoral research supervision

Dedicated support available for up to 18 experienced UCL supervisors to apply for recognition of their doctoral supervisory practice through UK Council for Graduate Education.
In January 2020, the UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE) launched its .ÌýThis offers a route to professional recognition specifically for research supervisors.
Twenty-four UCL supervisors have so far submitted successful applications to become UKCGE Recognised Research Supervisors, with support from UCL Arena Centre.
Good supervisory practiceÌý
The application for recognition is an evidence-based reflective account of supervisory practice aligned to the criteria ofÌýÌý´Ú°ù²¹³¾±ð·É´Ç°ù°ì.
Feedback from participants
In 2018/19, UCL was invited to pilot the programme, with all four participants submitting successful applications to be UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE) Recognised Research Supervisors.ÌýIn July 2020, 12 participants applied for recognition, with support from UCL Arena Centre.
Supervisors who have previously participated in the scheme have fed back positively on the experience:
"The exercise really got me thinking about best practice and immediately taking some action too, so it has been overall very positive".
"It did make me reflect and I have already implemented some supervisory changes in response to completing this".
If we receiveÌýmore than 18Ìýapplications, a small panel of Õ¬ÄÐÊÓƵ colleagues will assess the applications and decide on a shortlist.
Shortlisting will recognise:
- work or contributions that individuals make to promoting positive research cultures, and/or;
- progressing or improving equality, diversity or inclusion in doctoral supervision.
Submitting your reflective account
If shortlisted, you will be required to complete a reflective account about your doctoral supervision. This is approximately 5,000 words and you will receive tailored support from UCL Arena.
You will receive tailored support from the UCL Arena Centre to complete your account.
There are two upcoming deadlines for submitting your final account. Applicants must choose when completing the above form which deadline they will aim for:
- 28 March 2022
- 25 July 2022.
