Find out what to do when you leave your UCL Accommodation, from checking out of your room to avoiding cleaning charges

Checking out of UCL Accommodation

Thank you for living with us. We hope you have had a great year! Please find important information regarding your move below.

Leaving your room

On your final day in UCL Accommodation, you must complete the check out process by 10am.

If you are planning to leave earlier than the date specified on your contract, please let us know by going to the , selecting the ‘Notice to Quit’ tab and completing the required details.

Packing and Moving 

You are responsible for packing and moving your own belongings. This includes providing your own packing materials and boxes.Ìý

When packing, please do not leave items outside your room, in the corridors, or obstructing the lift doors. These are essential escape routes and need to be kept clear for an evacuation in the event of an emergency.

All rubbish should be disposed using the appropriate waste and recycling facilities available in your Hall.

If you need help, you can bring guests to assist with packing your room. Please be aware that your guests should always remain with you.

Returning your keys

When you move out of the building you will need to sign out and return your keys at reception by handing the keys to the Hall Team.

If you are moving out when the reception is closed, you should leave your keys in the office door letter box in an envelope indicating your room number.

If you do not return your keys, you will be liable for future accommodation fees, and charged for a replacement set and a lock change. Details of all charges can be found in the ‘Leaving your Hall’ section of the UCL Accommodation General Regulations.Ìý

Cleaning

You should clean your room thoroughly, including your ensuite if you have one, and remove all belongings and rubbish.

In the kitchen, you should remove any of your own personal equipment and dispose of all food in the refrigerator or cupboards.Ìý

Unwanted Items

Coat hangers can be left in your wardrobe.Ìý

Any items left in your room, kitchen or bathroom after you have left your Hall and returned your keys, will be assumed to be unwanted and will be disposed of. Any loss incurred by UCL because of you failing to remove goods on termination of the Licence Agreement, including any storage costs, will be invoiced to you.Ìý

Post

Please clear your mailbox before you leave and update your address for your bank account and any online shops. After you move out, we cannot forward any post to you, and anything received will be returned to the sender.

UCL Accommodation account 

If there is credit left on your account, this will be refunded to you. So that we can process a refund, you must add your UK bank account details to .Ìý

To do this, follow the steps below:

1.Ìý   Click My Money
2.Ìý   Select View/Update your bank details
3.Ìý   When asked to Select the source to input your bank details please select Residences refunds
4.Ìý   You will need your bank sort code, bank account number, bank branch name, and bank account name to successfully complete this section.
